Understanding Child Sexuality and Gender Issues for Social Service Professionals will provide relevant information on the psychosocial issues of child sexuality and gender within a context of healthy child and adolescent development. Current research and theory will be covered as a basis for improving case planning and intervention services. Skills needed for integrating the information into practice will be developed through analysis of actual case studies and role playing. The training methodology will include multimedia presentation, participant activities, case studies and application of skills in role playing. Emphasis will be placed on case planning and intervention with children who have experienced sexual abuse, including ‘soft’ signs in very young children. Emphasis will also be placed on adolescent issues of sexual and gender identity as encountered in the social services, mental health and juvenile justice areas. Case studies will be drawn from actual case histories of clients served by the Nurturing Center and Parenting Partners.
